EFFY
Effy 3.1
b.2000, lives and works in Los Angeles.
Integrating practices of coding and painting, Effy keeps finding new terms and different media to articulate female subjectivity beyond the internet facade. The notions of repetition and parametric generation are recurring themes in her work.
She is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts at Maryland Institute College of Art.
I reimagine the signifying capacity of women’s bodies in my works as something more than just objects of male desire; instead of defining a woman’s body based on a static and fixed male perspective as a sexualized object or the “spectacle”, I positively define it based on what it means to and for the woman myself. From a personal standpoint, I believe the human body is not only the most significant aesthetic medium, but also the most powerfully expressive one. It is quite possible to mask facial expressions, but the body reveals my real thinking. Thus, I represent the female body and its gesture as the most identifiable element in this series of paintings.
